Startup IP Voucher

LIOC wants to lower the barrier for startups to protect their innovations so they can attract invenstors and accelerate the growth of their business. The Startup IP Voucher does this by providing a significant reduction in the costs of establishing their first Intellectual Property protection. With the voucher a startup can get patent proptection in the Netherlands ánd a trademark registration in the Benelux (with six months free trademark watch) for a fixed amount of €3500.


Procedure

1. Send an email with information about your idea and brand name to info@lioc.nl with in the subjectline: “Startup IP Voucher”

2. Based on the information provided, LIOC assesses wheter your idea may qualify for patent protection and wheter the trademark registration is feasible. For trademark protection we will do a Trademark Check for which you will receive our report.

3. If the first estimate is positive, an introductory meeting with LIOC will take place in which the procedure will be discussed further.

4. LIOC determines whether you qualify for the Startup IP Voucher based on the outcome of the meeting. Only a limited number of vouchers are available per year.

If qualified for the STARTUP IP VOUCHER:

6. LIOC requests further information to be provided. See “Required Information” below.

7. After receiving the necessary information, LIOC will take care of:
a) preparing a draft patent application
b) preparing and filing the trademark registration

8. After apporval of the draft patent application, LIOC will submit the patent application as a Dutch patent application. The idea can now be made public and the term ‘patent pending’ can be used. Read our blog for more information on this subject.

9. A novelty search is conducted by the Patent Office. The results will be sent to you by LIOC (+/- 9 months after filing)

10. LIOC advises on the filing of your application abroad (deadline is 12 months after filing)

11. The patent is granted and published. LIOC sends you the patent certificate (+/-18 months after filing)

12. LIOC reminds you of the maintenance fee due in the Netherlands (3 years after filing). Youw ill receive a quote.


Investment

For the offer outlined above we charge a fixed amount of 3500 EURO. An advance note will be sent for this amount which must be paid before the work is started. This amount covers the patent costs for the protection in the Netherlands for the first 3 years and trademark protection in the Benelux for the first 10 years. After these periods, maintenance fees will become due, for which quotations will be sent to you in advance.

PATENT
A patent granted on a patent application within this program is of the same quality as all our patents. Included are:

  • 1 patent application with a maximum of 10 claims drafted in English or Dutch
  • 1 round of corrections
  • 1 search of the “national type”

In case more claims, additional reviews and comments or a an accelerated delivery date are desired, a cost indication will be issued for this additional work in advance.

TRADEMARK
Trademark registration is only provided if it is deemed feasible by LIOC following the Trademark Check. Included are:

  • 1 Trademark Check
  • 1 Benelux trademark registration with 1 class of goods or services
  • 6 months of trademark watch

If more classes of goods or services are desired, or if the Trademark Check reveals that the registration is not feasible without additional work, a cost indication will be issued in advance.

If after the first meeting with the Patent Attorney and after the Trademark Check it is decided not to grant a voucher, not costs will be charged.


Required information

  • Available information on the innovation (for example. presentations, memo’s, description, drawings/pictures)
  • Business Plan

After awarding the voucher:

  • Invention Disclosure Statement 
  • Signed order form
  • Excerpt of the Chamber of Commerce
  • Technical drawings (in Solidworks 3D CAD or AutoCAD)

Please note that no information regarding your idea should be made public prior to filing your patent application!

Applying for the voucher can be done by sending us an e-mail with information about your idea and the name you would like to protect with a trademark. Please send your email to info@lioc.nl and mention in it ‘Startup IP Voucher’.
